Engineering is the science, skill, and profession of acquiring and applying scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge, in order to design and also build structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes. One who practices engineering is called an engineer. Engineering, much like other science, is a broad discipline which is often broken down into several sub-disciplines like Chemical engineering, Civil engineering, Electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering etc.
In India, there are several engineering colleges imparting undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering, applied engineering and sciences. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are the renowned and reputed institutes in the country.
The admission to these and many other institutes across India are held through various entrances exams like IITJEE/ISEET, AIEEE, BITSAT, DCECE, VITEEE, ISAT, WBJEE, KIITEE, EAMCET, MHCET, Karnataka-CET etc.
